Websites and Software as Trade Secrets

Posted under Copyright & Graphic Design & Intellectual Property & Legal Issues & Logo Design & Trade Secrets & Trademarks & Web Design

dreamstime_3675597 Many creative professionals are aware that we must protect ourselves by contracts and by being copyright conscientious. However, few are aware that aspects of their creative business may be warranted trade secret protection. Dr. David Himelstein states in his website, “[t]rade secret law can be used effectively to protect web sites and computer software.” (Himelstein, 2006) It is not advised to rely purely on trade secret protection though; websites and software would benefit best from copyright protection and patents in conjunction to trade secret.

When designing for a product it is important to do as best as possible to include items to appeal to all three learning styles.

Designing the User Interface

Posted under Design & Information Design & User Interface & Web Design

Designing the user interface should be the most important part of a designers’ job. The interface is what bridges the user to the computer. It acts as an information portal where the user will obtain and process data into information. The interface is where information design actually exists in tangible form. The tangible form is where the look and feel of the program comes into play.

Intellectual Property Fiasco!

Posted under Copyright & Ethics & Intellectual Property & Legal Issues & Morals & Technology & Web Design

dreamstime_6434748 Last week I mentioned how smart J.K. Rowling was for not signing the rights to her Harry Potter franchise away. By not signing her rights away she has become one of the most famous rags to riches success stories to date. Ms. Rowling went from living in her car with her children to being the most successful children’s literary authors in the world. The billionaire author is a role model for new writers everywhere and a household name for millions of families.

New Tutorial Series – From PSD to xhtml/CSS!

Posted under Art Institute & Freelance & Tutorial & Tutorial Series & Web Design & css & tableless & xhtml

dreamstime_1781263 I recently received a request from a student of the Art Institute Online to write a tutorial on how to build a static website. She specifically wants to know how to have a header image remain in place while navigating through the various pages.

There are thousands of beginner tutorials out there about how to build a website and such but those make the learner feel as though the tutorial writer thinks everyone is 12 years old. If they don’t make you feel 12 years old then they make you feel like you are learning disabled if you are not already a competent web developer.

New Logo Design – The Bonez

Posted under Graphic Design & Logo Design & T-Shirt Design & The Bonez & Web Design

My good friend Devon asked me if I’d mind designing a logo for him. He and his cronies from Parker Chiropractic College have decided to start a private club type thingie of sorts that they have named "The Bonez."

Devon pretty much gave me creative freedom but stated he wanted a skull and black.

After 2 revisions his logo was complete.

Introducing "The Bonez:"

TheBonez4

The new logo will be included on the website and they will be getting t-shirts printed.

I can’t wait to see this in t-shirt form!
